So it seems my sister is moving to Mobile, Alabama.
Huh.
OK, so her in-laws live there. And her hubby has a lead on a better job. OK….
But what about my nephew? Now I will not have the option to pop over (OK, a 2 hour drive is not exactly “popping’ anywhere) and see him. He’s only 9 months old. I will miss seeing all the cute things he will start doing soon. And my mom will miss seeing her only grandchild (to date).
And if they are gone long enough he won’t remember me at all. L
(Yes, selfish I know. But I will miss my sister too!)
And the big shock is that she is leaving her twin sister behind. They have never been apart. EVER.
I have to wonder if little mommy realizes what she is doing. This is the same girl who could not stand to be in a separate bed from her sister when she was little.
Sigh… perhaps they will come back soon…. One can hope, right?
]]>OK, so another throw away book. This one is a bunch of short stories all based on dragons in different cultures and time periods.
I found it very interesting, read while my eyes are still healing, so it was kind of a trial on how long I could stand to focus on the little word printed on the pages without causing a major headache.
I am improving everyday.
]]>OK, so I was having trouble seeing (due to eye surgery) so this was actually a book on CD. I'm counting it as I was not able to see much of anything at this point.
We meet Joe after his father has died and his mother is trying to hold herself together for him. Together they move to the town where is Aunt Beth lives and move in to her house.
He starts to work part time at a grocery store and deal with his thoughts and emoitions. He starts a new high school and life starts to take off.
This novel follows Joe through the next 40 years of his life, the friends he keeps, those he loses, and the whirlwind force that is a girl he knew from high school breezing in and out as the years pass.
A great read for anyone who wonders what those other kids from high school are now doing, or just enjoys seeing a character grow into themselves.

Helen is tired of taking care of her mother. She is judgemental, mean, critical of her only child and agraphobic.
She is old and slowly detiriorating. So Helen kills her mother.
This starts the emotional and mental roller coaster that is Helen's life with this woman who gave her life.
Enjoy the ride.

]]>Sci-fi. Fun, quick read, summer trash. Gotta love it!!
This is an interesting concept. When a baby girl is born, the mother (a witch) the child's soul splits into 2 pieces, one of which is intorduced to the goddess by bringing the baby outside under the stars.
This half is trained to be a witch.
The other is a dolpelganger, whom the witch half is supposed to kill to gain her magic.
The main character, Mirei, is the result of combining the 2 instead of them offing each other.
Now Mirei must find the other dopelgangers and protect them.
Lots of action, descriptions of magic. fun all 'round.

My home 'puter has been ravaged by a virus my darling hubby accidentally installed. Working on getting that fixed soon.
Tomorrow I am scheduled to have laser eye surgery (so I can SEE!) Once I get ym baby back, I will load pre and post pix.

My mother suggested this book to me. She was, of course, right.
I loved this book. It is a tale of a Tahitian woman living in her home town and her relationship with her daughter and the cousins and aunties that populate the town. She decribes her emoitions and reactions in such a way that you swear she is right there next to you.
The language is a bit different from other books I have read, but was not hard to follow. It seemed as a local dialect or speach pattern put to page.
I encourage any mother or daughter to read this as the insights into their realtionship really hits home.

I found this in a box of books my hubby had inherited. I liked the show so figured I would give it a shot (and remove myself for a short while from the long heavy book I am in the midst of).
This is one of the funniest books I have come across recently. I was laughing, out loud (and scarring my cats) time after time while breezing through this.
I fully enjoyed this nugget of fiction and encourage anyone to try it out.
A note of caution, if you do not enjoy british humor (a la BBC) you may not 'get' this novel. This was hubby's problem, not really slapstick.
