Do you have a pet? What kind of pet do you own, and why did you choose it?

OK, so I'm a little late for this....
I have two cats, about 1 1/2 old, litter mate brothers, mixed breed
That said, my little bits, One is extra long and skinny with a VERY long tail and the other is a bit more squat and was born sans tail. The joke being the Neech stole his brother's tail in the womb and stuck it to his.
So I believe they are part Manx and part Chausie, due to shapes. (per www.catchannel.com, here are examples of their shapes. The White one looks just like Mischief , except both of my angels are black.
That said, my darlings are shelter babies. My hubby and I decided we wanted a cat so we went to the Humane Society in our county to find one. We had picked these adorable little kittens, but they were too young to take home. We decied we would go visit the little things every weekend so they could get used to us. When we went back a week later, they had all been put down, all 6 of them, due to some sickness or infection they had.
We were heartbroken, but went to look at some other cats in the shelter. We came across a cat, 3 years old, named Demon. The shelter volunteer said the owners brought him in because he bit someone, but was not aware of the situation. (did some kid try to pick him up by his tail, was he abused?) Then one of the employees mentioned that it might be better to get two, since we both work full time and they would need some companionship. So we wandered over to another cage and found the most adorable kittens, 5 of them, whose mother had been run over outside a grocery store. The store employees found the kittens under a garbage bin and took them in to be taken care of.
Hubby and I held each of them, he preferred males, I just wanted to save the babies. So we arranged to foster two of them until they were cleared to be adopted. This kept them from getting sick from whatever the other kittens were suffering from and give them a chance to bond with us. They went to several check ups, were given meds for a cough they developed from being in the shelter cages, and were taken in to be fixed.
Mommy (that's me) stayed by them and am still very bad about spoiling them with love and tuna juice. (though not everyday).
I could not ask for better behaved, loving, social kitties. I love them both dearly! (I can't get the pix to post well. Sorry)
